Thursday 5th August
For the second time in a fortnight The Blankney Seniors had
an away day. This time it was the regular annual trip to Thorpe
Wood. On this occasion there were 33 seniors partaking. The weather was kind, in that it
stayed dry in spite of "iffy" weather forecasts the night before. The winner was
Ian Smith with a score of 39 points. Second was Derek Isaac who beat Roger Lugsdin on countback, both having scored 37 points. Prizes for "nearest the pin"
went to Mike Merrison on the first, and Clive Miller on the sixteenth. Thanks
and once again congratulations to Doug Riddell for all of the organisation and
hassle that
went into a splendid day.
Thursday 22nd July
Today was the day that 42 members of The Blankney Seniors'
Section ventured forth for the annual Seniors' Captain's Day competition. The
venue for this year was The Lincoln Golf Club at Torksey, and what a good choice
this turned out to be. The course was superb, the food was excellent and for
most of the seniors the bonus was, in spite of dire weather forecasts, that rounds were completed
without a soaking, except for the unfortunate last couple of three balls. The
overall winner was Bob Khan with an excellent score of 40 Stableford points,
which included a "blob" on the last hole. In second place, on countback, was
David Stanley who scored 37 points as did John Robson who came in third. Fourth
place, again on countback, this time with 36 points was Peter Morley, with Derek Green
coming in fifth. The prize for "The Best Par 3s" went to Steve Langley,
"Nearest The Pin" on the sixth went to Cyril Bray, "Nearest The Pin" on the
twelfth was Ian Smith, and the prize for "The Hidden Holes" was won by Bill
Salmon. A very big vote of thanks is due to Doug Riddell for an
extremely well organised day, which must have entailed a lot of hard work.

Blankney Seniors Roll Up League
For the DOUGLAS
BRAY SHIELD
The idea for a
league was introduced in 2008 by Ian Smith as a simple way of furthering
competitive interest in the Senior Social competitions and rewarding those
members playing consistent and regular golf throughout the year.
Individual league
positions are determined by the number of points accumulated throughout the year
which runs from the 1st December to the 30th November.
Points are awarded
to players who receive prizes on each of the social competition (Roll-Up) days.
Points are
allocated as follows:
4 prizes 1st
4 2nd 3 3rd 2 4th 1
3 prizes 1st
3 2nd 2 3rd 1
2 prizes
1st
2 2nd 1
Each month the
results together with the years running total are recorded and displayed on our
web site and the Senior Members notice board.
It has been agreed
the League will run from the beginning of December to the end of November with
the winner and runner up being presented with their prizes at the Club’s AGM in
December.
To help finance
the League, members wishing to participate are requested to make a £2
contribution towards the running costs and prizes. Thank you for your support.
Tuesday 13th July
There
was a fairly respectable turnout of 62 seniors competing for The Bert Newman

seemed to get in fairly dry.
Reliving some of his past glories the winner was Elwyn Barton with an excellent
score of 41 points. In second place was Roger Pring who scored 40 points. Adrian
Turner came in third with 39 points. Fourth and fifth places went to Maurice
Hopkinson and Colin Eades, both on countback, and both on 38 points. The CSS for
the day was 71 points.

lucky. Dave Hills improved upon his second place in The Ken Williams by winning
this time on countback with 38 points. Second place went to Alan Conway, again
on countback from Peter Bennett who was third. The CSS for the day was 72.
Tuesday 1st June
The
2010 Blankney Seniors Open took place today with the met men forecasting a lot
of rain, but although we had a little rain it was not as bad as forecast and
certainly a lot better than we had in 2008. There were 155 players taking part
of whom ther were 84 visitors representing 30 clubs from around the East
Midlands. The first three places in each age
group were as follows: 65 - 69 year group, in first place was Mick Young of
Blankney with 43 points, second Geoff Parker of Toft Hotel with 38 points and
third was Bob Fisher of Blankney on countback with 36 points; for the 70
plus age group, in first place was Jim Keable of Blankney with 40 points, second
place Jim Toomey also of Blankney on countback with 37 points and in third place
Brian Olner of Burghley Park; in the 55 to 64 age group, first place went to
Rick Streeter of Blankney with 40 points, in second place on countback on 38
points was Gerry Walsh of Sleaford, in third place, also on countback, was Peter
Bennett.
Well done Malcolm Earney for the organisation ofhis first Seniors Open as
secretary, and thank you to all of his helpers especially Margaret and Anthea
supplying very welcome refreshments in the halfway house all day.
Sunday 9th May to Friday 14th
May
The
Spring away trip took in a new venue this year, at The Forest of Dean golf
course. Fifteen Blankney members ventured into the unknown, and were in the most
part pleasantly surprised. The competition took part over four days, with one
round per day. The Wednesday round was at the beautiful (if difficult) Forest
Hills course. The overall winner was John Bryant with a four round total of 141
Stableford points. The ladies runner-up was Pat
Lugsdin with 138 points, and her husband Roger was the gents runner-up with 137
points.
Well done Paul, ably assisted by Anthea, for an excellently organised
golfing/social holiday in the best Colin Cartwright traditions.

Tuesday 24th April
The first of this years annual competitions, The Ken Williams
Cup, was held today. Out
of a field of 66 seniors the clear winner was Alan Burgess with 40 points. In
second place, on countback, was Dave Hills, followed by John Bryant and Mick
Brothwell all on 38 points. In fourth place with 37 points, again on countback,
was Bill Stonier. The CSS for the day was 71.
Captain v Vice-Captain
4th March
On what was probably the best day for weather so far this year,
the annual curtain-raiser for the Seniors section took place today. Forty-four
members took part in what turned-out to be a very close match. The final result
being a win for the Captains side by one match.
Valentines Dinner
Friday
12th February Blankney Seniors, accompanied by their ladies, held the annual
Valentines dinner in the Blankney club house.
An excellent meal was followed by speeches from Seniors Vice-captain Peter
Morley and Seniors Captain George Foster, and the response on behalf of the
guests by was given by Club Captain Giles Harvey. An extremely enjoyable evening
was had by all, thanks to Doug Riddell who organised this splendid evening once
again.
